About Me
I was born in 1966 in Coventry and from an early age it was clear that I would be an artist. As a very small boy I was encouraged by my parents to draw, and so for me it became a natural extension of playing.
My formal art education took place at Coventry (Lanchester) Polytechnic and then Wolverhampton School of Art and Design. In 1988, I graduated with Honours in Fine Art and Printmaking.
In 2000 I took the plunge and became a professional artist after winning the Grand Final of the popular Channel 4 television series 'Watercolour Challenge', presented by Hannah Gordon and judged by the late Tom Coates and the guest judge and actress Julia McKenzie ( pictured ).
About my Work
My preferred painting medium is watercolour. Its versatility never ceases to surprise me, and furthermore, the lightweight, compact nature of the equipment, makes it ideal for painting outdoors, directly from the subject.
I never work from photographs. I tried it once and that was enough for me! I found the process extremely boring and worse, detrimental to the immediacy of my work.
Now that you know a little about me and what inspires my work, why not browse the paintings and drawings?
